How to install numpy
- Download and install ActivePython
- Open Command Prompt
- Type
pypm install numpy
- Read the notes specific to this package.
On Windows (32-bit), Windows (64-bit):-
You may see the following error when you import numpy:
[...] File "C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Python\Python27\site-packages\numpy\linalg\linalg.py", line 23, in <module> from numpy.linalg import lapack_lite ImportError: DLL load failed: The specified module could not be found.
This is because %APPDATA%\Python\Scripts is not expanded in %PATH%. To fix it, either manually expand it in %PATH% or run pypm -g install numpy. See Bug #89474 for details. This inconvenience will be fixed in future versions of ActivePython.

NumPy is a general-purpose array-processing package designed to efficiently manipulate large multi-dimensional arrays of arbitrary records without sacrificing too much speed for small multi-dimensional arrays. NumPy is built on the Numeric code base and adds features introduced by numarray as well as an extended C-API and the ability to create arrays of arbitrary type which also makes NumPy suitable for interfacing with general-purpose data-base applications.
There are also basic facilities for discrete fourier transform, basic linear algebra and random number generation.
