I'm just putting my humble 0.02€ in the discussion (which is only 
marginally more than 0.02$).

For quite a few years I wondered why no one ever was taking up what Andy 
is proposing and experiment on it. As he said, Qt has an elegant 
approach to GUI design and it can be good looking on every supported 
platform. But it is also so flexible and configurable that you can let a 
Qt based application look almost like a Motif based Tk application we 
are used to see on Unix systems ;-)
