Well, I committed Gustaf's latest notifier code to the "experimental"
branch. Running the test suite, I notice hanging during the cleanup
of "chan.test", and - later - in the chan-io-6.56 testcase. I suspect
that the notifier thread needs to start in some more situations than
currently handled. Or maybe the service mode hook needs to
be called in more code locations.

Gustaf, can you shine any light on that?
